To Believe 03:11
To Believe (Érica Alves) To believe is to not believe in anybody else but yourself, I can see what's inside of me, I can walk a while, I can run a mile. To believe is to not believe in anybody else but your friends, I can see what's inside of me, I can walk a while, I can run a mile.

New Again 03:28
New Again (Érica Alves) I'm with you again I'm new again Did you take my hand and let me make things fall again? Take my hand and then you make me want to fall again. I'm with you again I'm new again Won't you take my hand and make it like a dream again? Don't like the way we come and then we go again? ... the love we often share... you've got the truth... I'm with you again I'm new again Won't you take my hand and make it like a dream again? Don't you like the way we come and then we go again? ... the love we often share... you've got the truth...

Sordid Game 03:20
Sordid Game (Érica Alves) They had a ton of good ideas They never told us once before I tried to disappear to see It wasn't easy to ignore We had a many good idea That nobody liked to hear And when we finally disappear We all become each other’s ears That’s why we play that sordid game That’s why we punch at each other’s face That’s why it’s so hard to get along And we can’t do anything about that Feel my pain Yeah it’s come again, It’s come again, it’s… They had a ton of good ideas They never told us once before I tried to disappear to see It wasn't easy to ignore We had a many good idea That nobody liked to hear And when we finally disappear We all become each other’s ears Into our minds Changing deeper day by day If we fail again We try again We try again, we… That’s why we play that sordid game That’s why we punch at each other’s face That’s why it’s so hard to get along And we can’t do anything about that Feel my pain Yeah it’s come again, It’s come again, it’s…

Digging My Weeds (Érica Alves) This is the reason I'm awake A possibility I must take I have to write on your command This genie I must be his friend There is no other life I know Got let him in Breathing the dragon, letting it fly Taking its wings and hovering by The missing pieces in my hand A newfound reason, a newfound end This is the story of the story of the end This is the way to heal my friend The light's still beating on my skin I'm still leaning on my chin Out in my garden, Digging my weeds, The sounds of my children splashing away The river runs peaceful into the pond The air is so breezy, The sun shines on me

The River 05:51
The River (Érica Alves/ Thiago Cascabulho) We're crossing the same river again We're crossing the same river again Look, I'm not quite the same Although our names will never change Look, I'm not quite the same The way to forget to remain

Don’t Let me in (Érica Alves) Don’t let me in Don’t let the fire breathe in Don’t let me out Because there’s nothing to worry about Clocks full of time Roads full of way To help us save the day Pain in my heart Pain from the window Which just passes by White, mellow down my mind Find out my tiny little rhyme The one I sang when all was Behind me Don’t let me in Don’t let the fire breathe in Don’t let me out Because there’s nothing to worry about Make me a clown Make me a merry fantasy Create all the joy The joy, the joy, the joie de vivre Of my very choice White, mellow down my mind Find out my tiny little rhyme The one I sang when all was Behind me

about

MAWW Records is proud to present the amazing singer-songwriter Érica Alves with her solo project called "Érica". Born in Nova Friburgo, countryside of Rio de Janeiro, Érica has taken part in several different musical projects. She started doing lo-fi recordings using a Yamaha PSR series at age 12, played in psychedelic rock bands like "Café da meia noite" and "Motherfunk" in college, and currently lives in Sao Paulo working with the groups "The Drone Lovers" and "Anvil FX", both artists of our label.

Most of the songs on this tape were composed by Érica in 2009-2010. She moved to São Paulo and began working on these solo compositions with her friend Pedro Zopelar in his home studio.

"At first we recorded the demos in my room. We start creating grand arrangements with orchestra plug-ins, multiple channels, an entire band, but we had not achieved a truly authentic sound. Only after a while, when I bought my first Portastudio cassette, we decided to put this record to life. We rearranged everything in 4 channels and finally got the result we strived for! Something that sounds really soulful and homemade, without covering up the true vibes with pitch correctors or other digital resources. Nowadays, digital home studio tracks do not sound like they are made in bedrooms, so we found a way to give authenticity back to home recording," says Pedro Zopelar, producer and creator of MAWW Records.

Check out the strength of Érica's songs: near danceable lo-fi-trip-synth-pop with the good old "hiss" of an analog recording.
